Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is in the first place a therapy based on the use of essential oils that are derived from plants. The essential oils are not concentrated from whole plant parts, but they are extracted from flowers, roots, barks, leaves, resin, peel, or grasses by a process known as steam distillation. It was actually a French chemist named Rene-Maurice Gattefosse who coined the term “aromatherapy” to describe the process of using plant therapeutically, and it was due to such introduction that the concept of aromatherapy treatment was born.

The aromatherapy treatment greatly varies according to different conditions to which it is used. Many people have claimed that the aromatherapy treatments work on people both physically and psychologically, and this has been supported by a number of theories. The first portion of the theory on aromatherapy treatment explains the notion that when you smell an essential oil, it then triggers your limbic system, which is the part of the brain that controls emotions and stores and recovers learned memories. It is such action in the brain that makes you relax in the end. The other part of the aromatherapy treatment theory then holds that the essential oils are absorbed through the skin, and possess medicinal properties that primarily act on the cause of the problem. This action is much strong when the aromatherapy treatment is applied directly to the skin in the form of massage.
